Out and About


East Devon offers plenty to see and do for all ages. There is something for everyone.

 

Colyton is 2 miles from us. It is a 'small town with a big heart and a warm welcome'. A quaint historical town with traditional village shops, little stone cottages to substantial houses with odd ghostly reputations. Guided history tours are available www.colytonhistory.co.uk.
Character Inns will serve you excellent food and real ales in comfortable surroundings or seek out the Tea Rooms, Restaurants or Take Away

St Andrews Church, Colyton dates back to Norman times and is one of only three lantern towered churches in th UK.

Enjoy our beautiful unspoilt seaside resorts. All of the following are within 30 minutes drive from the farm:-

Sidmouth - A very elegant Regency town with timeless charm. An excellent array of shops, with independant boutiques and quality gift shops. Stylish eating places with many hotels serving cream teas and yummy treats!

 

Lyme Regis - Excellent for fossil hunting as it is a part of the Jurassic Coast. Historic town with cob harbour. Good sandy beach and good for swimming.

 

Beer - Picturesque fishing village. Colourful population of fishing boats, fresh fish for sale and mackerel fishing trips. Interesting shops, galleries and excellent places to eat.

Branscombe - A very relaxing, picturesque coastal village. Thatched cottages and colourful hanging baskets galore. Pebbled beach in a peaceful, natural surrounding.

 

Seaton - A sand and shingle beach is bordered by a broad promenade perfect for taking in the sea air. From here you can take up the South West Coastal Path or take the Undercliff walk to Lyme Regis.

 

Visit our two picturesque National Parks of Dartmoor and Exmoor, both only an hour's drive away as is the Cathedral City of Exeter, the regional capital of the South West with it's Guildhall and Princesshay Shopping Centres, Historical Quayside and Medieval Underground Passages.

In 2001 this area was awarded a rather special accolade of World Heritage Site, due to the global importance of the rocks, fossils and coastline spanning from East Devon to Dorset. It clearly depicts a geological walk through time. It is also the habitat for many rare and important plants and animals.

Are you familiar with the TV series River Cottage? The River Cottage HQ is only 25 minutes away from the farm. Bookings can be made for a night's dining and entertainment through to courses in foraging, curing, gardening, bread making butchery.....etc.

Why not enjoy our beautiful riverside walk to Colyton and then take it easy by having a ride on an open top electric tram to Seaton. You will pass through the beautiful Axe Valley with superb views of the estuary, popular with bird watchers.

A train enthusiasts delight. Enjoy the model railway exhibitions, ride on the minature passenger train overlooking the gardens and coastal views. Enjoy a meal in a genuine railway dining car.

This is an international welfare charity based in the UK working to protect and care for donkeys and mules. the sanctuary is a farm and it is the only one in the UK open to the general public. It is home to about 200 donkeys FREE ENTRY.
